And that sure looks like an EJ257 to me.

Why.
Are they planning a mid cycle "Fuck you" to early owners by then putting in the newer turbo 2.0?
I don't get it. All thus hubub about the WRX and STI being on their own platform back then (yea, that clearly happened) and then a very lackluster concept to production transition combined with last generations running gear.
Sometimes change is bad and isn't needed, but this probably wasn't one of those times where sitting on their asses and using old things was worth it.
But this is why I sell 10k TVs and not cars, I don't 'get' the automotive business and product planning.

I blame Toyota.

They'd have more impetus to do something more than what they've done if the Evo hadn't left the stage. Now with no competition, they can repackage the same old shit.

Well they now have another Golf R to deal with at the same price, something I imagine VW will pounce on to remind us there is another way that doesn't involve hard plastics and ringland failures.

Saw an iQ today on the road. I would say so.

Your angst is misguided, then as this is all up to Subaru. Why Subaru made these weird decisions remains to be seen.

Maybe drivetrain development took a back seat to chassis development. Remember, Subaru is tiny for an automaker and developing the whole platform in stages may let them come up with a better finished product. Better to throw lots of money at one thing at a time than it is to throw not enough money at lots of things at a time.

Is this a fucking joke?! What the fuck have they been doing. The STI has gone from a world beater to something comparable to a V6 Camry. Get off your asses Subaru and develop your damn car!!

I really don't see the Golf R competing with the STI. WRX, maybe, but not the STI. The spirit of the two is just so different, and I feel like each would attract different buyers. The Golf is more "Very Hot Hatch" while the STI still has that "Monstrous rally homologation special for the road" feel. One is a scalpel, the other is a sledgehammer.

They're both "grounded to the ground," you say?
